Hilton Hotel chain hit by card breach
KrebsOnSecurity reported on Friday that a "large number" of Hilton Hotel and franchise properties have been hit by a credit card breach targeting point-of-sale terminals in gift shops and restaurants.
Krebs cited reports from banking industry representatives who say the only common denominator for the cards suspected of having been compromised was their uses at Hilton properties.
The breach was first identified by Visa and seemed to have taken place between April 21 and July 27 of this year. Other sources speculated to Krebs that the breach could have begun as early as November 2014.
Hilton responded that it is investigating the claims. NAFCU continues to push for a strong national data security standard for retailers, and is urging Congress to act on H.R. 2205, the "Data Security Act," this year.
