Berger talks reg relief with Duffy

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger discussed credit union regulatory relief with House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Sean Duffy, R-Wis., during a meeting Thursday.

NAFCU Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt also attended the meeting. Berger thanked Duffy for introducing NAFCU-backed legislation that would give Congress direct oversight of CFPB activities (H.R. 1261) and make CFPB Credit Union Advisory Council meetings open to the public (H.R. 1265, which passed the House in April).

During his remarks at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus in September, Duffy urged credit unions to draw attention to CFPB rules that need review and reform.

Earlier in the week, Berger also met with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., House Small Business Committee Chairman Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, and House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services Chairman Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla. During those meetings, Berger and the lawmakers discussed regulatory relief and NAFCU's continued push for a national data security standard for retailers.

NAFCU continues to meet with top lawmakers and regulators to push credit union advocacy goals and further the industry's message.
