Yellen headed to Hill for monetary policy hearings

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is headed to Capitol Hill this week to testify on monetary policy and the state of the economy. She testifies Wednesday before the House Financial Services Committee and Thursday before the Senate Banking Committee.

NAFCU will be following Yellen's testimony and other hearings this week, including one by the House Small Business Committee Wednesday looking at the Small Business Administration's Office of Capital Access and Office of Credit Risk Management. The hearing will focus on whether those offices need improvements to better assist small companies obtain capital.

On Thursday, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a hearing on concerns about CFPB limiting access to credit and overriding "state and tribal sovereignty."

Also this week, President Barack Obama's final budget, for fiscal year 2017, is set to be released tomorrow.

NAFCU will continue to monitor the presidential primaries and debates going forward. Following tomorrow's primary in New Hampshire, the candidates will move on to Wisconsin for a Democratic debate hosted by PBS Thursday. CBS News will host a Republican debate Saturday in South Carolina.

The next Democratic primary will be in Nevada on Feb. 20, the same day of the Republican primary in South Carolina.
