NAFCU's team will focus on two key things: bringing the regulatory burden on credit unions to the attention of lawmakers and other policymakers; and telling the story of the good work credit unions are doing for their members across the country. Thaler and Kucey will attend policy meetings, breakfast and lunch events and will meet with lawmakers to discuss issues important to credit unions. NAFCU Associate Directors of Legislative Affairs Gaurav Parikh and Allyson Browning will also attend the convention; Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt will join them later this week.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., are both scheduled to speak at the convention today. Other speakers slated for the week include President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. Presumptive Democratic nominee Secretary Hillary Clinton will speak on Thursday.

Speaking last month in North Carolina, Clinton praised credit unions' small business lending and touted the need for regulatory relief for the industry. NAFCU has met with senior policy advisors for both Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump about the need for credit union regulatory relief in this area and others.
