FOMC announces 2017 meeting schedule

The Federal Open Market Committee on Tuesday announced its tentative meeting schedule covering 2017 and going into 2018.

The committee's two-day, policy-setting meetings are currently scheduled for the following:

  • Jan. 31-Feb. 1;
  • March 14-15;
  • May 2-3;
  • June 13-14;
  • July 25-26;
  • Sept. 19-20;
  • Oct. 31-Nov. 1;
  • Dec. 12-13; and
  • Jan. 30-31, 2018.

Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen is scheduled to deliver quarterly news conferences following the March, June, September and December meetings.

Recently, NAFCU Chief Economist and Director of Research Curt Long noted that the United Kingdom's "Brexit" referendum vote last week to leave the European Union will likely further delay an interest rate hike in the U.S. "For the U.S. economy, Brexit will at the very least lead to increased volatility in financial markets," said Long. "Fed action is likely on hold until the fourth quarter at the earliest."

The FOMC next meets July 26-27, and three more times before the end of the year: Sept. 20-21, Nov. 1-2 and Dec. 13-14.

Following its June policy-setting meeting, the FOMC left the federal funds target rate unchanged at a range of 0.25 to 0.5 percent.
