This week: Mulvaney in NAFCU member-only call; hearing on financial exploitation

NAFCU this week will discuss the latest legislative and regulatory news during its "2Q Advocacy Update" member call-in on Wednesday featuring House Financial Services Committee member Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., and will follow a Senate hearing on protecting older Americans from financial exploitation, among others.

Mulvaney, who last year introduced a bill that would require NCUA to hold yearly budget hearings and release its draft budgets for comment, will speak to NAFCU members at the top of the June 29 member-only call. Attendees will also hear from NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and other senior staff. Wednesday's free call-in will begin at 4 p.m. Eastern; registration is required.

Also this week:

  • The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging on Tuesday will hold a hearing on the costs and options of small business health care.
  • The Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship on Wednesday will discuss the consequences of dwindling start-up activity.
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday will investigate how older Americans can be protected from financial exploitation.
  • The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management on Thursday will discuss the use of agency regulatory guidance and potential legislative solutions and safeguards.
  • Also on Thursday, the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship will hold a hearing on small businesses' survival amid unaffordable flood insurance rate increases.

The House is out of session this week, with representatives working in their home districts. NAFCU encourages member credit unions to reach out to them while they're in town to discuss top credit union industry concerns.
