CU advocacy encouraged during Congress' break
The Senate and House of Representatives are in their home districts and states this week and the House will remain out next week as well. During this time, NAFCU is encouraging its members to reach out to lawmakers while they're in town to discuss top credit union issues.
Because 2016 is an election year, lawmakers will be spending more time than usual in their home districts, giving credit unions more opportunities to directly advocate for key legislative and regulatory issues. NAFCU member credit unions can set up meetings with lawmakers during their in-district work periods by contacting NAFCU Director of Political Affairs Dan O'Brien at dobrien@nafcu.org.
"Elected officials need to hear from credit unions in their home district and state about what really matters in their communities during this election season," O'Brien said. "We know lawmakers value the input they receive from credit union representatives – their constituents. That's why it's so important that credit unions reach out during these district work periods to make the industry's concerns known."
More information about NAFCU's advocacy goals is available on the Grassroots Action Center page, including the association's pushes push for credit union regulatory relief, a national data security standard for retailers, and increased budget transparency from NCUA.
NAFCU staff continues to monitor the presidential election. This Friday, North Dakota will hold its Republican Caucus. No primary debates are scheduled for this week.
