Senate Banking sets 2 nominee votes, could add more

The Senate Banking Committee is poised to vote April 7 on two nominations – including one for Amias Gerety as Treasury assistant secretary of financial institutions – and says it could add more names before that date arrives.

The April 7 Senate Banking hearing, an "executive session," will also include action on the nomination of Jay Lerner to be FDIC's inspector general. The notice says the votes on Gerety and Lerner will be taken before the committee conducts a hearing that morning with CFPB Director Richard Cordray.

"Additional nominees might be announced at a later date," the committee said.

Also awaiting action is the president's nomination this January of NCUA Board Member J. Mark McWatters to the board of the Export-Import Bank.

McWatters has been on the NCUA Board since 2014 and has said he plans to remain there until the Senate confirms him to the Export-Import Bank post. Now, NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz, whose term officially ended last August, has announced she plans to leave her post April 30. No nomination to replace her had been announced by press time.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, R-Ala., indicated to POLITICO in January that the panel wouldn't rush to hold hearings while he was in the middle of a primary fight. He defeated his primary opponents Feb. 29 and is poised to run for his sixth Senate term this November.
