Webcasts give insight on strategic board best practices

Monitoring credit union success and learning how to add more value to a credit union board were some of the many topics discussed in yesterday's NAFCU webcast, "Keeping Score: How Does Your Board Measure Its Own Success?"

Led by Tansley Stearns, chief impact officer for the Filene Research Institute, the webcast covered best practices, strategic planning and how to enhance success within a credit union's executive leadership.

She emphasized that "board members should not think individually but rather as a collective." That is, they should focus on "what is best for the credit union and its mission," she said. She also suggested that boards conduct well-being checks and keep an "evergreen list" where board members can indicate their desire and availability to serve.

During a Tuesday webcast, "Preparing for the NAFCU Certified Volunteer Expert Designation", attendees learned about designation and how it can enhance a volunteer's understanding of regulatory and operational issues. The webcast was led by NAFCU Executive Vice President and COO Anthony Demangone.

The NCVE online training consists of 11 training modules and one optional 50 question exam, with all trainings led by Demangone. Demangone discussed each of the modules during the free webcast.

Both webcasts will be available on demand through NAFCU's Online Training Center for one year.
