House Republicans say no new regs from government agencies

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Republican committee chairmen wrote all federal agencies Monday asking that no new regulations move forward in the last few remaining months of President Barack Obama's presidency.

McCarthy noted in a press conference Tuesday, reported by Roll Call, that a similar request was made by Democrats when Obama won the presidency.

The article also noted that the House will vote this week to prevent midnight regulations – or regulations created by executive branch agencies during the lame-duck session of an outgoing president's term. Obama has threatened to veto the measure.

Roll Call reported that the provision to ban midnight regulations could be attached to an upcoming government funding bill that will keep the government open passed the Dec. 9 deadline.
