CFPB 'snapshot' eyes money transfer complaints

CFPB's monthly "complaint snapshot" for September eyes consumer complaints about money transfers as well as complaints made by consumers in Pennsylvania.

CFPB said it has handled 6,900 money transfer complaints as of Sept. 1, and 41 percent of those were related to fraud. Consumers frequently complained about sending money to a seller but not receiving the items they purchased.

In Pennsylvania, CFPB said debt collection is the most-complained-about topic. The bureau also noted that the rate of mortgage complaints is slightly higher in the Philadelphia area at 26 percent than the national rate of 25 percent.

CFPB also said it had handled more than 1 million complaints overall in September.

Credit unions were not mentioned in the complaint snapshot.
