NAFCU-welcomed NCUA budget briefing is Oct. 27
NCUA today said it will hold its promised budget briefing from 2 to 4 p.m. Eastern Oct. 27, during which credit union stakeholders will be able to discuss the agency's 2017-2018 budget plans – a move long advocated for by NAFCU.
The agency also said its budget plans would be released during the week of Oct. 9, allowing interested stakeholders to review the plans.
"We again thank Chairman Metsger for allowing credit union stakeholders the chance to review and comment on the agency's future budget," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "NAFCU encourages NCUA to continue looking within its agency and find cost savings wherever possible to mitigate the financial impact on credit unions."
NCUA Board Chairman Rick Metsger announced at NAFCU's Annual Conference in June that the agency would hold a public budget briefing in October and that details of the agency's 2017-2018 budget plans would be released in advance.
In July, before the agency conducted a mid-session budget review, NAFCU requested that the agency give credit union stakeholders at least 60 days to review the budget before the briefing. During the mid-session budget review, NCUA projected $2.7 million in reduced spending.
