NAFCU at Mnuchin's tax reform panel today

NAFCU staff will attend a panel discussion about the Trump administration's tax reform plans with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin today in Washington.

The NAFCU representatives will be monitoring for any details on the administration's plans and their potential impact on credit unions.

Mnuchin has said a tax bill is unlikely to pass before August, but he says the administration wants to pass tax reform this year. Last week, President Donald Trump said he planned to release more details about his plan as early as today.

NAFCU continues to hold the preservation of the credit union tax exemption as its top priority. An independent study commissioned by the association earlier this year shows the benefit to U.S. consumers from the tax exemption is $16 billion per year.

On Monday, NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger sent Mnuchin a "framework" for how the Trump administration could create meaningful regulatory relief for credit unions.

Today's panel discussion is part of The Hill's Newsmaker Series.
