Berger, on Fox Business, discusses tax reform, CU reg relief

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, appearing Thursday on Fox Business Network's Countdown to the Closing Bell with guest host Ashley Webster, talked about the association's recent meeting with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, tax reform and the importance of achieving regulatory relief for credit unions.

Berger told Webster in the live television interview that he is "encouraged" by NAFCU's meeting with Mnuchin and that the discussion was "extremely productive."

Webster also asked Berger about the importance of regulatory relief for credit unions. "Since Dodd-Frank passed in 2010, we've lost 1,500 credit unions," Berger said, adding it's time for some regulatory rollback.

Berger reiterated NAFCU's position that the CFPB director post should be replaced with a bipartisan five-person commission, which would slow the fast pace of regulations coming out of the bureau. He said small community financial institutions, like credit unions, represent Main Street America and provide capital for small businesses.
