Mnuchin counselor Phillips at NAFCU today on reg relief, housing reform

Craig Phillips, counsel to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, will be at NAFCU today to meet with association President and CEO Dan Berger and other senior staff to discuss regulatory relief, housing finance reform and other credit union-related issues.

Phillips works with Mnuchin on a variety of issues related to domestic finance, housing finance policy and regulatory reform.

In addition to Berger, today's meeting will include NAFCU Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt, Chief Economist and Director of Research Curt Long, Director of Regulatory Affairs Alexander Monterrubio and Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler. Other Treasury representatives present will be Jared Sawyer, acting assistant secretary for financial institutions; Matt Kellogg, deputy assistant secretary for legislative affairs; and Frank Ragusa, special assistant.

During today's meeting, NAFCU's senior staff will discuss the association's ongoing priorities and concerns. NAFCU staff will highlight the tax study it released earlier this year detailing the value credit unions' tax exemption provides to the industry and the overall economy. The association will also reiterate its core principles for housing finance reform for inclusion in any final reform measures.

Regarding credit unions' regulatory burden, NAFCU staff will share its current efforts and goals for rolling back certain Dodd-Frank Act measures that have had a negative impact on the industry. NAFCU will also reiterate its long-standing position that credit unions should not be under the oversight of the CFPB.
