NCUA FOM webinar, questions now online
An NCUA webinar and series of questions and answers on the agency's new field-of-membership rule are now available online, and the agency said more guidance is slated for release by May.
NAFCU Vice President of Regulatory Compliance Brandy Bruyere covered the webinar in a NAFCU Compliance Blog post today.
The rule, which was approved in October and went into effect in February, includes numerous NAFCU-sought changes to modernize and ease the chartering and expansion process for all types of federal credit unions.
The NCUA expects to have new guidance on the rule, including examples and resources on FOM expansion requests, available by May. The new guidance will cover community charters, rural districts, multiple common-bond expansions, trade, industry or professional groups and credit unions that serve a branch of the U.S. armed forces.
Earlier this month, the NCUA asked the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to dismiss a suit filed by the American Bankers Association against the FOM rule. NAFCU, which maintains the rule is well within the NCUA's legal authority, continues to monitor the suit.
