Fall Regulatory Compliance School Day 2: Reg E, E-sign, privacy, more

Credit union professionals received in-depth updates on hot-topic compliance issues related to Regulation E, the Truth in Savings Act, E-SIGN, privacy and more during the second day of NAFCU's Fall Regulatory Compliance Schoolin San Diego.

NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Counsel Stephanie Lyon gave the opening presentation on Regulation E (Electronic Fund Transfer Act). She discussed how attendees can better understand covered accounts, disclosure requirements and the error resolution process.

Apple Federal Credit Union's John Harwell led the discussion on Regulation CC (Expedited Funds Availability Act) requirements for funds availability and disclosures. Chevron Federal Credit Union's Katherine Proefke also updated attendees on Regulation D's reserve requirements and the rule's treatment of deposit categories and transaction accounts.

Later, NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance Counsel Andre Cotten presented on disclosure requirements under the Truth in Savings Act, including how credit unions are required to describe overdraft programs.NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Counsel Jennifer Aguilar also spoke on E-SIGN Act rules, including the requirement to obtain member consent before providing electronic disclosures.

Attendees learned about the Gramm‐Leach‐Bliley Act (GLBA), Regulation P and the Right to Financial Privacy Act during a closing presentation by NAFCU Senior Regulatory Compliance Counsel Elizabeth Young LaBerge.

Attendees of this week's School will have the opportunity to complete the four exams required to attain the award winning NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer(NCCO) designation. Those already designated as NCCOs can maintain their certifications by attending all of the School courses to receive the available 24 continuing education credits (CEUs).
