Hyatt Hotels breached again; 41 properties affected

Credit unions should be aware that Hyatt Hotels Corp. is alerting its customers to a credit-card breach that appears to have impacted 41 properties across 11 countries between March 18 and July 2. This breach impacts payment cards that were manually entered or swiped at the front desk of these affected locations.

KrebsOnSecurity.com reported that only five of the Hyatt properties affected are in the U.S., including three resorts in Hawaii and one in each Guam and Puerto Rico. Payment card information, including cardholder name, number, expiration date and internal verification code, may have been compromised.

In early 2016, the hotel chain disclosed a massive credit-card data breach – affecting 250 hotels in 50 countries.

NAFCU continues to push for Congress to pass a strong national data security standard for retailers that would hold them to the same standards credit unions already follow under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Credit union representatives can reach out to their members of Congress and urge them to support such a measure through NAFCU's Grassroots Action Center.
