CUs, NAFCU discuss housing priorities with HUD's Carson

Credit unions' role in helping low-income consumers and how the industry and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can work together to advance their goals were discussed by NAFCU-member credit unions and association senior staff during a meeting Monday with HUD Secretary Ben Carson.

The group also discussed affordable housing, credit unions' priorities for housing finance reform and how they can work together on a public-private partnership on financial literacy initiatives at HUD.

NAFCU-member credit union representatives that attended Monday's meeting were: Karen Rosales, president and CEO of Arlington Community Federal Credit Union; Tim Anderson, president and CEO of Government Printing Office Federal Credit Union; Cutler Dawson, president and CEO of Navy Federal Credit Union; Bill Kennedy, president and CEO of HUD Federal Credit Union; and Kim Adams, board member at HUD Federal Credit Union.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt, Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler, Director of Regulatory Affairs Alexander Monterrubio and Regulatory Affairs Counsel Ann Kossachev also attended the meeting.

Carson has been enthusiastic about his support of the credit union industry. NAFCU and its members work closely with HUD to ensure that credit unions can provide high-quality loan services to American families in order to strengthen the country's economic foundation.
