NCUA announces new charter: Clean Energy FCU
The NCUA yesterday announced it granted a charter and federal share insurance for Clean Energy Federal Credit Union in Boulder, Colo. The credit union will serve 4,300 members of the American Solar Energy Society.
"It is always great to see a new credit union get underway," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "Consumers benefit greatly from credit unions in the marketplace and I'm sure the members of Clean Energy Federal Credit Union will recognize those benefits right away."
Clean Energy plans to provide financing to consumers for the purchase and installation of solar panels and high-efficiency home energy improvements, and the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles.
Once the credit union can support additional services, the NCUA said Clean Energy plans to offer services such as share drafts, ATM access, individual retirement accounts, home equity loans and mortgage loans for those homes that are net-zero-energy, Energy-Star-certified, or have a low-home energy use rating.
The American Solar Energy Society, founded in 1954, is a nonprofit organization of renewable energy professionals, advocates and enthusiasts.
