This week: NAFCU hosts small-dollar loan working group, meets with FinCEN

NAFCU's regulatory affairs team has a busy week ahead as it hosts a small-dollar loan working group discussion on Friday and meets with Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Acting Director Jamal El-Hindi on Wednesday.

The small-dollar loan working group discussion will include representatives from several NAFCU-member credit unions, Pew Research Center, Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI) and Filene Research Institute. They will be discussing the implications of the CFPB's payday lending rulemaking, among other things.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt, Vice President of Regulatory Compliance Brandy Bruyere and Director of Regulatory Affairs Alexander Monterrubio will attend the meeting with El-Hindi to discuss credit union compliance with FinCEN rules and regulations.

On Tuesday, members from NAFCU's regulatory affairs team will attend the CFPB's Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC) meeting, which will include a discussion on overdraft and financial empowerment initiatives. Several NAFCU-member representatives serve on the CFPB's CUAC.

Today, NAFCU's Cybersecurity and Payments Committee will meet to hear an update from Tim Segerson, deputy director in the NCUA's Office of Examination and Insurance, on the agency's cybersecurity examinations.

Congress is also back in session this week and NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler discusses lawmakers' fall legislative agenda in a new NAFCU Today video.
