The Department of Housing and Urban Development should ensure that any changes to its Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act rules do not inadvertently affect credit unions through arrangements with lender affiliates, NAFCU said Wednesday.

NCUA said it liquidated First American CU of Beloit, Wis., Tuesday and signed an agreement with First Community FCU of Parchment, Mich., to assume its assets and liabilities, ensuring members uninterrupted access to credit union service.

Fees for access to phone numbers in the National Do Not Call Registry will remain at current levels through fiscal 2011, the Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday.

A repeal of the credit union tax exemption would force credit unions to cut back on lending, even as the president is calling on financial institutions to make more capital available, according to NAFCU President Fred Becker.

A court has granted NCUA an extension to Sept. 2 to provide further written arguments about its decision to begin liquidating Kappa Alpha Psi FCU on Aug. 13.
 
09/01/10 - FDIC reports more troubled banks
FDIC second-quarter data indicate that the number of troubled banks has risen to 829, which is nearly double the number of problem institutions that were reported at the same time last year.

Reps. Jim Himes, D-Conn., Rubén Hinojosa, D-Texas, Lynn Jenkins, R-Kan., and Brad Sherman, D-Calif., are the latest lawmakers to be added to the top-notch speaker lineup for NAFCU’s 2010 Congressional Caucus at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, Sept. 19-22.

NCUA has extended the expiration date of the Temporary Corporate Credit Union Share Guarantee Program from Sept. 30, 2012, to Dec. 31, 2012.
