Fed revises Reg CC for check routing

Jan. 6, 2010 – Revisions to routing number information under the Federal Reserve Board’s final round of check-processing restructuring were published in yesterday’s Federal Register and take effect Feb. 27.

The information revises the Fed’s Regulation CC and reflects the completion of the consolidation of all check-processing operations to the head office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. It reassigns routing symbols currently listed under the Atlanta Fed, the last facility that will cease processing, to the Cleveland Fed.

With this change, there will be only a single check-processing region for purposes of Regulation CC, and no check will be treated as “nonlocal.” The Fed reminds that Reg CC requires institutions speeding up availability schedules to notify their consumer account holders within 30 days of those changes.

The Fed’s financial services office issued a release detailing the final consolidation and how to transition items that normally would be headed to the Atlanta office. That and the final Reg CC revisions are linked below.
