BSA Advisory Group applications due Feb. 24
Feb. 4, 2010 – The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network is taking applications until Feb. 24 to fill seats representing financial institutions and trade groups for three-year terms on the Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group.
FinCEN doesn’t publish the list of group members, but the underlying statute says it includes representatives from federal regulatory and law enforcement agencies, financial institutions and trade groups with members subject to BSA requirements. The advisory group, chaired by the FinCEN director, advises the Treasury secretary of BSA operations.
There are 11 openings to fill, including three banking industry vacancies and a banking trade vacancy. Credit unions are included within the “banking” classification for BSAAG membership.
Under a presidential order from January 2009, BSA Advisory Group member organizations may not have someone who is a registered lobbyist represent them at BSAAG plenary or subcommittee meeting.
Membership decisions are at the discretion of the FinCEN director, and those interested can apply themselves or be nominated. Any member credit union interested in being nominated by NAFCU should contact Dillon Shea, NAFCU’s associate director of regulatory affairs, by e-mail to dshea@nafcu.org, or dial (703) 522-4775, ext. 212.
