McAuliffe to keynote Congressional Caucus

July 8, 2011 – Terry McAuliffe, a Democratic party leader and political adviser, will be the keynote speaker at NAFCU's 37th Annual Congressional Caucus Sept. 18-21 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington.

The Congressional Caucus is NAFCU's lobbying event of the year, placing credit union representatives face-to-face with members of Congress, regulators and policy makers that have an impact on credit union operations and services to members.

McAuliffe served as cochairman of President Clinton's 1996 reelection campaign and later did a five-year stint as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He also chaired Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and later ran for governor of Virginia. With an early background in financial services and business, McAuliffe is currently focusing on the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy sources.

Key issues being tackled at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus will include, among other things, the impact of the Dodd-Frank Act interchange provisions on credit unions, preserving credit unions' federal tax exemption amid deficit-reduction efforts and reform of the housing finance system.

The Caucus begins with registration and a welcome reception Sept. 18. General sessions are slated Sept. 19-21. Following the first two general sessions, Caucus participants will break for meetings with lawmakers' and their staffs on Capitol Hill.

Discounts for early registration end July 29. For more information,go towww.nafcu.org/caucus.
