Issa, Capito, Chabot, Meeks, and Schock Join Distinguished 2014 Congressional Caucus Lineup

Washington (Sept. 8, 2014) - Reps. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., Steve Chabot, R-Ohio., Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., and Aaron Schock, R-Ill., have joined the growing list of distinguished speakers confirmed to address the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 2014 Congressional Caucus, Sept. 9-12 in Washington, D.C.

Issa is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reformand a strong proponent of credit unions. He joined with 323 other House members in a letter to NCUA raising concerns about the risk-based capital proposal and supports H.R. 688, the "Credit Union Small Business Jobs Creation Act," to raise the credit union member business lending cap. Issa has also criticized the suggestion that the U.S. Postal Service provide non-bank financial services and has pressed Target for internal documentation on the company's massive data breach.

Capito is chairman and Meeks is ranking member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. This year, the two introduced H.R. 4466, which would require regulators to review new financial industry regulatory proposals to see if they are duplicative or inconsistent with existing regulations.

In April 2013, Capito introduced H.R. 1553, the "Financial Institutions Examination Fairness and Reform Act." This legislation is a key part of NAFCU's five-point plan for regulatory relief. NAFCU witnesses have testified on regulatory relief for credit unions before the subcommittee several times during this Congress.Meeks is an original cosponsor of H.R. 719, the "Capital Access for Small Businesses and Jobs Act." He is also a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Chabot serves on the House Judiciary, Small Business and Foreign Affairs committees.

Schock is a member of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. He is also the House Deputy Republican Whip, where he is responsible for assisting House Republican leadership in crafting legislative strategy and floor votes.

These distinguished lawmakers join an illustrious roster of congressional speakers that are scheduled for NAFCU's Congressional Caucus, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and more.
