Credit Union Leaders Are Saying ‘Enough is Enough' at NAFCU's 2014 Congressional Caucus

Washington (Sept. 10, 2014)Hundreds of credit union leaders from around the country are gathering today to kick off the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 2014 Congressional Caucus, which runs through Friday morning at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

"With the increasing regulatory burdens facing credit unions, especially those presented by NCUA's proposed risk-based capital rule, now is the time to advocate for your members in our nation's capital," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "As we have said, ‘enough is enough,' and this year's Caucus is where credit unions will speak with their lawmakers directly and make their most pressing concerns known."

Today's speakers include Berger, keynote speaker Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the Rothenberg Political Report and columnist for Roll Call,National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board Member Rick Metsger, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray, House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Reps. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio., Robert Hurt, R-Va., Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., and Patrick Murphy, D-Fla.

Thursday, Caucus participants will hear from Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro, Freddie Mac CEO Donald Layton, Sens. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., House Committee on Oversight and Government ReformChairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., Reps. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., Ed Royce, R-Calif., and Aaron Schock, R-Ill., and Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Jason Furman.

Friday, speakers include Treasury Acting Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Amias Gerety, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Director Jennifer Shasky Calvery, Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer, and Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif.

The Caucus general sessions provide a robust lineup of more than 20 speakers from the Senate, House, NCUA and other federal agencies. Capitol Hill visits with lawmakers and numerous networking events at popular Washington establishments are also on the agenda.

Other highlights of the Caucus include recognition of the 2014 Paul Revere Award winner. The award recognizes the credit union grassroots activist of the year.
