Furnace Named NAFCU's 2014 Paul Revere Award Recipient

Washington (Sept. 16, 2014) - The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) recognized American Airlines Federal Credit Union Government and Industry Relations Manager Walter Furnace as the credit union grassroots activist of the year with the presentation of the 2014 Paul Revere Award during the final day of the association's Congressional Caucus Friday in Washington.

"Walter has been a diligent supporter of credit unions and the industry's most vital issues," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "His commitment to advancing credit unions' legislative and regulatory initiatives is unwavering."

Given to NAFCU members only, the award recognizes the credit union supporter who goes above and beyond the call of duty in their grassroots and political efforts.

Furnace is a regular on Capitol Hill making visits on behalf of American Airlines FCU. In June, he met with eight members of Congress, including Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Texas. Furnace discussed some of the credit union industry's most pressing concerns, including preserving the credit union tax-exempt status, regulatory burden and protecting credit union members from merchant data breaches. He also led a discussion regarding NCUA's risk based capital proposal, prompting Marchant to write NCUA to question the merits of the proposed rule.

Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and established in 1936, American Airlines FCU is a member of NAFCU. American Airlines FCU is a member-owned, financial cooperative firmly focused on what works best for its member-owners. With assets exceeding $5 billion, American Airlines FCU serves more than 200,000 members from almost 40 branch locations nationwide.

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions is the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of federally chartered credit unions before the federal government and the public.
