FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAFCU Thanks Veterans and the Credit Unions that Serve Them

Washington (Nov. 10, 2014) - In honor of Veterans Day Nov. 11, the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) is reflecting on the work and sacrifice of the nation's veterans, current servicemembers and their families and reinforcing the association's commitment to ensuring the credit unions that serve them have the flexibility and resources they needto do the job.

"We thank the nation's veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice, and we honor the work being continued by current servicemembers to protect our nation and preserve its freedoms," said Dan Berger, NAFCU's president and CEO. "In addition, we wish to reiterate our appreciation of the credit unions that work daily to ensure these individuals receive the financial services and products they need to meet life's challenges."

NAFCU supports a statutory and regulatory framework that ensures credit unions have the flexibility and resources they need to serve all of their members, including current and retired members of the armed forces and their families.

The association supports H.R. 5061, a bill introduced by House Veterans Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller, R-Fla., that would exempt loans to veterans from the member business lending cap. It also works to encourage outreach to servicemembers and veterans so they can realize the many benefits of membership in not-for-profit, member-owned credit unions.

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions is the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of federally chartered credit unions before the federal government and the public.
