NAFCU's Berger: "Credit Unions Playing Offense in Challenging Regulatory and Legislative Climate"

Montreal (June 24, 2015) – National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEO Dan Berger highlighted the importance of credit unions playing offense in today's challenging regulatory and legislative climateduring remarks today before NAFCU's 48th Annual Conference and Solutions Expo in Montreal.

"NAFCU is on the front lines pushing to make sure credit unions' voices are heard every day," Berger said during today's conference general session. He highlighted some ofNAFCU's recent strategic efforts, including the association's push for the "NCUA Budget Transparency Act" and bipartisan legislation to require public hearings on NCUA's annual budget. He also emphasized NAFCU's steadfast work challenging the agency's unnecessary second proposal on risk-based capital.

Berger also recognized numerous achievements of several credit unions across the country – from the introduction of cashless kiosks to enhanced mobile security features such as facial recognitionbiometrics. He underscored, "Credit unions know that you don't have to be big to make a difference. You don't have to be big to have a big effect on the world around you – your community, the economy, and future generations."

To help credit unions of all sizes with compliance efficiencies, Berger announced a strategic alliance with CBANC,a free and secure online network for financial professionals that will allow NAFCU-member credit unions to share policies, procedures, agreements and best practices in real time. Berger noted, "We want to make sure that our members have the tools they need to take on today's world of heightened compliance risk."

Berger also reiterated the historic news announced yesterday that NAFCU is now allowing federally insured, state-chartered credit unions to join NAFCU. "We're in this together, and I can't think of a better way to send that message to regulators and legislators than by opening up associate membership to federally insured, state-charters so that we can stand together at the federal level."

In closing, Berger said, "Big banks are out for themselves. Credit unions are sticking together. Through cooperation, sharing our experiences and our resources, and taking every opportunity to look to the future, we can do bigger and better things for our members, and make a big difference in this country's future."

He added, "Individually, we may be small, but together, we can have a big voice."
