NAFCU Statement on House Passage of Tax Cut Extender Package

Washington (Dec.17, 2015) -National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEODan Berger issuedthe following statement in response to the House vote today to pass a package of tax cut extensions as a part of a larger omnibus agreement reached earlier this week to fund the government through September 2016. The House is expected to vote on the spending bill tomorrow.

"NAFCU and our members welcome Congress finding consensus to keep our government working," said Berger. "Passage of the tax extender legislation is the first step in ensuring our government remains funded."

The tax extender bill includes provisions that extend the exclusion of debt forgiven by mortgage lenders gross income and allows mortgage insurance premiums to be considered as mortgage interest for tax purposes.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill.
