To earn the NCCO certification, an individual must pass a series of four examinations developed by industry-leading compliance experts. This can be done in two convenient ways:
Take the four required exams in-person during NAFCU's five-day Regulatory Compliance School. You may also opt to take the exams at another time, as long as you have passed all four exams by December 31 of the year you attended the school. All Regulatory Compliance School students will receive the most recent version of NAFCU's Credit Union Compliance GPS as part of their registration (no additional cost).
Purchase the NCCO Exam Package and take the four required exams at the time and place agreed upon by you and your exam proctor. Please refer to our FAQs for proctor information. Those opting to take the exams via self-study are not required to purchase NAFCU's Credit Union Compliance GPS, but it is strongly recommended since the GPS content closely mirrors what is on the exams. There is more information on the GPS and exam content below.
NAFCU's Credit Union Compliance GPS
Be sure to study with the version of the Credit Union Compliance GPS that matches the exam sequence that you have purchased (i.e., use the 2013 version to study for the 2013 exams) as the exams and GPS are reviewed and updated annually. Note: The material from the Appendix of the GPS is not tested.
Free Study Guide
NAFCU offers a free NCCO Exam Study Guide with chapter-by-chapter, section-by-section listing of the study tips as they appear in NAFCU's Credit Union Compliance GPS. The study tips are intended to provide general guidance, as well as pinpoint those areas on which test takers should focus. Download your free copy of the study guide.
The four exams cover a wide variety of compliance topics. Each exam contains 50 questions, with a mix of True/False, Yes/No and complex multiple-choice questions. A passing grade is 76% correct (38/50). Exam topics are all covered in NAFCU's Credit Union Compliance GPS as outlined below by topic and number of exam questions for each.
