NAFCU Survey of Credit Unions Key Findings

As part of NAFCU's mission to advance the credit union industry with effective regulatory and legislative advocacy, best in class education, and outstanding compliance assistance, we commissioned a survey to gain a better understanding of the perceptions, challenges and needs of member and nonmember credit unions.

McKinley Advisors conducted the survey from September 23 - October 9, 2015. It was sent to 16,512 credit union CEOs, chairs, staff, and volunteers. We received 1,700 responses for a solid 10% response rate.

Key Findings:

  • The vast majority of respondents are extremely satisfied with their NAFCU membership, and satisfaction has been on an upward trajectory since 2012.
  • At 46, NAFCU has one of the highest Net Promoter Scores (likelihood of members to recommend NAFCU) that McKinley has researched, three times higher than the average for other trade associations. Additionally, NAFCU's Net Promoter Score has risen seven percent since 2012.
  • NAFCU was identified as the "market leader" in terms of regulatory and legislative advocacy, compliance assistance, and education.
  • Over 90% report that the value their credit union receives from NAFCU is greater than or equal to the cost of membership.
  • 98% are satisfied or extremely satisfied with the quality of NAFCU's member service.
  • The three greatest professional challenges facing credit unions are compliance and regulation, decreased loan growth and interest rate squeeze, and membership retention and growth.

NAFCU is using the survey results and ongoing feedback from our member credit unions to guide our focus and initiatives in 2016 and beyond.
