Carrie Hunt, Esq.

Carrie Hunt is general counsel and vice president of regulatory affairs at NAFCU. Hunt acts as staff liaison to the federal regulatory agencies, assists in handling the development and implementation of NAFCU's regulatory policies and conducts analysis, interpretation and explanation of policy issues impacting NAFCU members. She also analyzes and manages litigation for NAFCU. 

Suzanne Garwood, Esq.

Suzanne Garwood is an attorney for Venable, LLP, who focuses her practice on state and federal law relating to consumer credit and financial services. She has a strong background in the area of consumer credit, and in particular with issues related to mortgage lending. 

Steve Van Beek, NCCO

Steve Van Beek is the Director of Regulatory Compliance at the National Association of Federal Credit Unions. His main responsibilities include assisting with NAFCU-member compliance issues, speaking at credit union events, writing articles for NAFCU publications, as well as drafting blog posts for the NAFCU Compliance Blog. Prior to his current position, Van Beek served as Regulatory Compliance Counsel at NAFCU.   

John Harwell, NCCO 

John Harwell currently serves as President of the Capital Area Compliance Roundtable.  He is the Associate Vice President of Risk Management at Apple Federal Credit Union in Fairfax, Virginia. Before joining Apple, he worked at FedChoice FCU and served as the Membership Services Manager. Throughout his career John has served in many capacities which include Teller, Teller Supervisor, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager, Membership Services Manager, Compliance Officer and Risk Manager. His areas of responsibility now include Regulatory Compliance, Internal Audit, BSA, Vendor Management and Business Continuity Planning.

Mitch Klein, Esq., NCCO 

Mitchell Klein is senior vice president and general counsel of the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia, PA.  He has been with the credit union since 1989.  Mr. Klein's main areas of focus are implementing and monitoring the credit union's regulatory compliance program, mortgage foreclosures, bankruptcies, loss mitigation, and drafting loan and member agreements.  Mr. Klein is also responsible for the credit union’s human resources and collection departments. Prior to joining the credit union, Mr. Klein practiced law at the firm of Adelman Lavine Gold & Levin in Philadelphia, specializing in creditors' rights.

Justin M. Anderson

Justin Anderson began as an attorney with NCUA in December 2007 after having worked as NCUA’s regulatory specialist. Prior to working full time for NCUA, Anderson was the agency’s law clerk for two summers and a legal intern for Washington DC’s Office of the Corporation Counsel. He recently moved from the Operations Division of NCUA’s Office of General Counsel to its Enforcement and Litigation Division. During his time in operations, his areas of focus included government contracts, flood insurance, freedom of information act, payday lending and Federal Reserve Regulations. As a litigation attorney, he now handles Equal Opportunity cases and administrative actions.

Pamela Yu  

Pamela is currently serving as staff attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the NCUA, where she is responsible for handling diverse legal questions on the management and operations of federally insured credit unions. Prior to joining NCUA, Yu gained extensive knowledge about the credit union industry at the National Association of Federal Credit Unions in her positions as Regulatory Compliance Counsel and Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs.  

Matthew J. Biliouris 

Matthew Biliouris began his career with NCUA in 1992, as an Examiner in Portland, Maine and then Virginia Beach, VA. During his nearly 20-year career with NCUA, Biliouris has served as a supervision analyst in the Region II office; information systems officer and program officer in the Office of Examination and Insurance; and special assistant to the executive director. He has also served as a special assistant to the Honorable Michael Fryzel during his term as Chairman of the NCUA. In August 2011, Biliouris was selected as the director of supervision within the Office of Examination and Insurance. He is responsible for establishing policy and developing industry guidance for NCUA's examination and supervision program.
