NAFCU's sold-out BSA Seminar kicks off today

Credit union professionals will receive specific training on Bank Secrecy Act, audit and anti-money laundering trends during NAFCU's inaugural and sold-out BSA Seminar, which begins today in New Orleans.

The BSA Seminar runs concurrently with NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance Seminar, which begins tomorrow.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger will kick off this week's programs during tomorrow's opening sessions.

"We are very proud to offer this innovative seminar on the latest Bank Secrecy Act information and requirements," said Berger. "The BSA Seminar will be invaluable in creating much-needed awareness of the constantly evolving money laundering threats to credit unions."

Today, a pre-conference workshop, led by NAFCU Director of Education Devon Lyon (former BSA officer at State Department Federal Credit Union) and NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Counsel Shereefat Balogun, CAMS, will help build attendees' BSA foundational knowledge.

In addition to Lyon and Balogun, and other members of NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance team, attendees this week will hear from:

  • Tom Lawler, senior liaison officer at the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network;
  • Jeff Sallet, FBI special agent in charge of New Orleans Division;
  • Lynn English, vice president of compliance and security at Lafayette Federal Credit Union;
  • Judy Graham, program officer, NCUA;
  • Sundie Seefried, chief executive officer of Partner Colorado Credit Union; and
  • John Vardaman, executive vice president and general counsel of Hypur.

    This new conference was approved for 17 CAMS continuing education credits by the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists. Attendees will also have the opportunity to earn the NAFCU Certified Bank Secrecy Officer designation upon taking and passing the exam during Seminar.
