Krebs: Kimpton Hotels investigating data breach
The San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants chain is investigating an apparent card data breach, according to KrebsonSecurity.
Kimpton has 62 properties around the country; it is not yet clear how many locations were affected, though Krebs says sources suggest the breach affected more than 20 of them.
Kimpton says it is investigating the potential breach with a security firm, and it urged customers to monitor their card statements.
If the breach is confirmed, Kimpton would join a number of recently breached hotels, including Trump Hotels, Hilton, Mandarin Oriental, White Lodging, Starwood Hotels and Hyatt.
NAFCU continues to push for a strong national data security standard for retailers through the "Data Security Act" (H.R. 2205/S. 961), which would hold retailers to the same standards credit unions already follow under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and institute consumer notification requirements.
In related news, NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger thanked President Barack Obama Tuesday for his new policy directive focused on cybersecurity; read more.
