The House and Senate yesterday passed a two-week funding measure to keep the federal government open until Dec. 22. The measure now awaits the president's signature.

The previous government funding measure expires at midnight tonight.

After passing a two-week continuing resolution to keep the government open, congressional Republicans hope to finish up their work on a tax reform bill so they can then address a longer-term budget deal. However, Republican and Democratic members of Congress are at odds over what should be included in the budget bill. The two parties have differing views on defense and non-defense spending, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and opioid addiction assistance, among other policy issues.

The National Flood Insurance Program was also extended until Dec. 22.
