Berger talks CU issues with House Majority Whip Scalise

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger discussed credit unions' top concerns and the association's priorities for 2017 with House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., on Thursday.

NAFCU Senior Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Chad Adams also attended the meeting.

Berger and Scalise also discussed lawmakers' plans for tax reform, and Berger emphasized the importance of protecting the credit union tax exemption. A recent independent study commissioned by NAFCU found that the credit union federal tax exemption creates a $16 billion benefit to consumers per year.

Other top priorities include regulatory relief for credit unions from the CFPB and the elimination of the Durbin amendment, the protection of credit union interests during the housing finance reform debate, establishment of a strong national data security standard and more.
