Mortgages, millennials kick off NAFCU's inaugural Lending Conference today

New to NAFCU's conference lineup, the association's Lending Conference begins today in San Antonio. Over the course of four days, attendees will hear from industry leaders on strategies to boost their credit union's lending portfolio and changing regulations that will impact lending opportunities.

NAFCU Director of Education Devon Lyon will kick off the inaugural conference with welcoming remarks.

"Lending is a critical component of the credit union industry," Lyon said. "NAFCU is excited to offer credit union representatives this new opportunity to dive deeper into what's possible in the lending space. From industry trends to compliance, our Lending Conference will cover need-to-know details to help credit unions thrive."

Today, conference attendees will learn more about trends affecting lending, including trends in sales, millennials and fintech.

Here are a few of the experts attendees will hear from during today's presentations:

  • Steve Richman, national spokesperson and marketing manager with Genworth Mortgage Insurance, will talk about trends in sales and how credit unions can take advantage of them in 2018 during "The Commodity Conundrum."
  • Tracy Stephan, director of Fannie Mae's Economic & Strategic Research Group, will offer attendees insight as to how their credit unions can better serve the millennial market, especially as it relates to mortgages.
  • Elizabeth LaBerge, NAFCU's senior regulatory compliance counsel, will provide compliance guidance and an overview of federal regulations that impact mortgage lending.
  • Steve Nigri, vice president of sales at Geezeo, will share tips and tools to help credit unions compete in the fintech space and take advantage of digital lending.

Tomorrow's sessions will include an in-depth look at how economic conditions will likely impact lending, organically growing lead generation programs, responding to the Equifax data breach and addressing lending risks. NAFCU Vice President of Regulatory Compliance Brandy Bruyere will also detail compliance best practices related to credit card lending and advertising.
