NAFCU's Sold-Out Inaugural BSA Seminar Kicks Off in New Orleans

New Orleans (Oct. 24, 2016) – Credit union professionals from around the country are gathering today to kick off the sold-out, inaugural NAFCUBSA Seminar. The conference runs through Friday, Oct. 28, at the InterContinental New Orleans. BSA seminar also runs concurrently with NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance Seminar.

"We are very proud to offer this innovative seminar on the latest Bank Secrecy Act information and requirements. We are especially honored that out of the gate our seminar has garnered the approval of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists. This recognition speaks volumes to the caliber of the material and expertise being offered," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "The BSA Seminar will be invaluable in creating much-needed awareness of the constantly evolving money laundering threats to credit unions."

Berger will open the seminar with welcome remarks to attendees.

The BSA Seminar will feature specific training for Bank Secrecy Act, audit, anti-money laundering and risk professionals. Attendees will learn about BSA trends and best practices, receive tools to master AML responsibilities and have the opportunity to earn theNAFCU Certified Bank Secrecy Officer, (NCBSO) a valuable designation upon taking and passing the exam.

Today, there will be a pre-conference workshop, led by NAFCU Director of Education Devon Lyon, NCCO, who is a former BSA officer at State Department Federal Credit Union, and NAFCU Regulatory Compliance Counsel Shereefat Balogun, CAMS, who will help build attendees' foundational knowledge prior to the deep-dive of the seminar's content throughout the week.

In addition to Lyon and Balogun, attendees will hear from other members of NAFCU's highly regarded team, including NAFCU Executive Vice President and CEO Anthony Demangone, NCCO; Senior Regulatory Compliance Counsel Elizabeth LaBerge, NCCO, NCRM, CIPP/US; Regulatory Compliance Counsels' Stephanie Lyon NCCO, NCRM; Benjamin Litchfield, NCCO; and Senior Regulatory Affairs Counsel Michael Emancipator.

Seminar attendees will also hear from the following:

  • Sundie Seefried, chief executive officer of Partner Colorado Credit Union;
  • John Vardaman, executive vice president and general counsel of Hypur; and
  • Kristen Tatlock, vice president of COMPASS 4 CUs, LLC.

By attending BSA Seminar, students also have the opportunity to earn 24 CEUs to maintain the NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) and 16.5 CEUs to maintain the NAFCU Certified Risk Manager(NCRM) designations. This seminar is approved by the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) as an approved provider of 17 CAM CEUs.
