Berger thanks Fryzel for support on MBL
March 6, 2014 – NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger thanked NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel for the support he gave NAFCU's suggested member business lending rule changes in his editorial March 2 in Credit Union Times.
Berger express that thanks in a letter to the editor that ran Tuesday in Credit Union Times. He also reiterated NAFCU's recommendations in a letter Wednesday to NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz, Fryzel and NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger.
In his Credit Union Times editorial, Fryzel highlighted several provisions that are key parts of NAFCU's "dirty dozen"
list of regulations that should be amended or eliminated. "We applaud
NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel for his leadership and call for the
agency to amend the regulations on member business lending," Berger
responded in the letter to the editor.
"This is indeed an opportune time for NCUA to proactively pursue
amending the MBL regulations that have choked credit unions' ability to
help small businesses."
Fryzel pointed specifically to provisions
suggested by NAFCU, including an exception from the MBL cap for credit
unions with a history of such lending, expanded ability to obtain
individual blanket waivers and a flexible waiver provision. These "are
all worthy of consideration, study and review by the NCUA Board," he
wrote.
