Briotta dispels myths about joining CUs

March 6, 2014 – NAFCU's Patty Briotta helps dispel the "six myths" about joining credit unions in a Bankrate.com article addressing eligibility, access, services and more.

In the article, "6 myths about joining credit unions," Briotta, NAFCU's director of public relations, says that while some people think they don't qualify for membership in a credit unions, there are a lot of credit unions out there.

"In a lot of cases, you may be eligible for a credit union because of a family member's status," she is quoted saying. "So it's important for consumers to understand that eligibility is a lot broader than they probably think."

Briotta points to CULookup.com, NAFCU's credit union locator website, as a good place to start looking for credit unions that serves one's area or group. She also points to the fact many credit unions participate in ATM networks and provide services through shared-branch facilities.

"It's part of the cooperative nature of a credit union," she says.
