Carrier joining NAFCU as chief economist

David Carrier will join NAFCU
as its chief economist April 30.

April 16, 2012 – David Carrier will be NAFCU's new chief economist and director of research beginning April 30, NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker announced Friday.

"NAFCU is delighted to have someone with David'sexceptional wealth of knowledge and experience on board tospearheadouroutstanding research team," said Becker. "With his 20-plus years of economic research and analysis expertise, we look forward to him leading NAFCU'seconomics and research division to new heights."

Carrier earned his Ph.D. in economics from Notre Dame and his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. At NAFCU, he will succeed Tun Wai, who left the association's top economist position in February.

Prior to joining NAFCU, Carrier was the chief economist at the Appalachian Regional Commission, where he worked on economic development strategies in rural underserved areas and developed ways to measure program impact.Carrier was also the senior economist at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. He currently serves as board chair for the Northwest Cooperative Development Center.

NAFCU's research division produces a number of publications – including the quarterly Cost of Funds Report and the monthly Economic & CU Issues Monitor – and its numerous economic forecasts and surveys.
