CUs to learn TCPA rules in webcast today

Credit unions viewing today's NAFCU webcast, set for 2 p.m. Eastern, will get an overview of new Telephone Consumer Protection Act rules affecting telemarketing calls, including a new requirement on prior consent.

Credit unions with a 2013 or 2014 webcast subscription will have access to this webcast, due to rescheduling from its original December date.

The new TCPA rules took effect Oct. 16 after the Federal Communications Commission amended the rules implementing the act to further restrict telemarketing calls to mobile phones.

Webcast speaker Andy Keeney, a partner in Kaufman & Canoles, is a nationally recognized speaker who currently serves as general counsel for numerous credit unions. He spoke at NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance Seminar last October in Nashville.

In today's webcast, Keeney will discuss the prior written consent requirement, specifics of what constitutes prior written consent, elimination of the established business relationship exemption and specific language that must be used in the consent agreement.

NAFCU's on-demand webcasts are available for up to 12 months after the live broadcast and are included in the registration fee.
