FCC's O'Rielly nominated for third term

o'riellyPresident Donald Trump Wednesday re-nominated Federal Communications Commissioner Michael O'Rielly for another five-year term. O'Rielly was previously nominated for a seat on the FCC in 2013 and has served two terms; he is being nominated another five-year term that will expire in 2024.

O'Rielly is supportive of NAFCU's efforts to reform the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and issues related to the definition of autodialer. The association previously met with O'Rielly to discuss ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal robocalls and to implement SHAKEN/STIR.

NAFCU has actively worked with the FCC on efforts to modernize the TCPA for more than three years, and will continue its advocacy to ensure credit unions can contact their members regarding important, time-sensitive information, without fear of frivolous litigation.

Most recently, NAFCU reiterated concerns about the erroneous blocking of legitimate credit union calls resulting from FCC guidance intended to combat illegal robocalls in response to a notice and request for comment about the implementation and effectiveness of call blocking measures.

O'Rielly's current term expired last June, but he is permitted to remain on the commission until the current Congress ends at the end of this year under the Communications Act. O'Reilly's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate.
