House plans C.R. to avoid another shutdown

Jan. 13, 2014 – The House is expected to vote on a short-term spending bill to ensure the government has funds to continue to operate past Jan. 18 to give the Senate time to act on an omnibus appropriations package for 2014.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., outlined these plans Friday while speaking on the House floor. The short-term bill is expected to be taken up under a suspension of the rules, a process reserved for noncontroversial measures. An affirmative vote by two-thirds of House members will be required for passage.

House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., supported the plan. A $1 trillion omnibus is slated for introduction in the House by Monday, reports said.

The short-term bill, if cleared by both the House and Senate and signed by the president, will keep federal government operations going under 2013 spending levels. That includes the NCUA Community Development Revolving Loan Fund and Treasury Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.
