Jan. 16, 2014 – NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz appointed Board Member Richard Metsger to the Board of Directors of NeighborWorks America on Wednesday, a congressionally chartered nonprofit that supports community development and affordable housing.

Metsger responded, "I am honored to be asked to serve as a director of this vitally important organization, which serves more than 4,500 communities nationwide. I look forward to working with my distinguished colleagues in their efforts to create affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans and their families in safe, sustainable neighborhoods."

Metsger will join the representatives of other financial regulatory agencies who make up the nonprofit's board, including the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Office of Thrift Supervision, as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The chairman of the board is Thomas Curry, the director of the FDIC.

Matz had served as the board's vice chair since 2012, after serving on the board from 2002 to 2005.
