NAFCU at CFA today, focused on consumer protections

Today and Friday, NAFCU is attending the Consumer Federation of America's (CFA) Consumer Assembly in Washington for discussions on how best to protect consumers in the areas of military, data security and auto sales, among others.

NAFCU Regulatory Affairs Counsel Kaley Schafer and Regulatory and Legislative Assistant Sarah Jacobs will attend the meeting. The CFA is an organization of various consumer groups that provides advocacy, research and education on their behalf. This Consumer Assembly is where issues are debated and new initiatives of the CFA are presented.

The meeting agenda for the next couple of days also includes:

  • a look at the consumer perspective of America's current political environment;
  • consumer protections in place for servicemembers and military families;
  • how to combat auto sales abuses;
  • how consumers can effectively advocate through grassroots;
  • consumer concerns and opportunities within the digital electric grid; and
  • the threat of data breaches to consumers.

NAFCU is active with the CFA, and association Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt serves on its board. She has also spoken at other CFA events.
