NAFCU lobbyists all in for Financial Literacy Day on the Hill

April 29, 2013 – NAFCU was well represented at the 11th Annual Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill, held Friday in cooperation with the offices of Reps. Rubén Hinojosa, D-Texas, and Steve Stivers, R-Ohio.

Program speakers included Rep. Hinojosa and Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., and Melissa Koide, Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary of Financial Access, Education and Consumer Protection. A representative from Rep. Stiver's office spoke as well. Reps. Hinojosa, Stivers and Sewell all serve on the House Committee on Financial Services.

Exhibits from government, not-for-profit and corporate participants were on display, sharing information about how they are promoting financial literacy around the country.

NAFCU lobbyists staffed an exhibit where members of Congress and congressional staffers could go to learn more about credit unions and their service to some 95 million member-owners across the country; in particular, the exhibit promoted NAFCU's credit union locator website, CULookup.com.

NAFCU has a long-standing commitment to promoting financial literacy and has itself produced many educational personal finance inserts and training materials on the topic over the years.
