NCUA Chicago listening session July 10

July 7, 2014 – NCUA's second summer listening session is Thursday in Chicago, where credit union representatives can go and air their concerns about any NCUA-related topics including the agency's risk-based capital proposal.

NAFCU will attend this listening session, which will be cohosted by NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz, senior NCUA staff and supervisory examiners from the region. The third listening session will be held July 17 in Alexandria, Va. Each listening session is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. local time.

NCUA's first listening session, held June 26 in Los Angeles, was attended by NAFCU along with more than a dozen NAFCU member credit unions. The session focused heavily on NCUA's risk-based capital proposal.

During the questioning, Matz said the agency would reexamine the risk weights in its proposed risk-based capital rule. She also said a second comment period for the proposal is unlikely but that NCUA will take it "under advisement." She said the implementation period for any final risk-based capital rule would be longer than 18 months.

NCUA staff also told attendees that interest rate risk may be accounted for through means other than the proposed rule; see full story. Hear the June 26 NCUA listening session.
